three ways to discuss being prepared...
2. With your family or den, make a list of possible weather changes
that could happen during your outing according to the time of year you are
outside. Tell how you will be prepared for each one. (don’t over do this, rain
or shine boys need to know how to dress, it should take about 1 minute to
discuss this preparedness tip)
4. Show or demonstrate what to do:
4A. In case of a natural disaster such as an earthquake or flood.
4B how to prevent spreading germs
Activity:
3. Name one animal that has
become extinct in the last 100 years and
name one animal that is
currently endangered. Explain what caused their declines.
(we had the boys play
“endangered animals musical chairs” and “extinct animals four corners”, they
each wore pictues of the animals they represented, if they didn’t want to be
“out” they just took off their picture and could keep playing. Finally we
discussed how climate change, over-fishing/hunting, and poaching has led to the
decline of these endangered animals and watched a short clip from youtube on
endangered animals while the boys ate popcorn.)

Faith

is about Heavenly Fathe's creations.
REQUIREMENT 1 Think
about what makes you laugh. Write down three things that make you laugh.
REQUIREMENT 2 Practice reading tongue twisters.
REQUIREMENT 2 Practice reading tongue twisters.
Gathering Activity: have each boy read a tongue twisters as they
arrive. There are great ones in the book or you can read pages out of Fox
in Socks by Dr. Seuss. For fun, give pretzel twists for participating
(for twisting their tongue).
Talk Time: discuss different types of communication verbal,
non-verbal, written, and visual, etc. Learned the scout motto in sign
language(book) as a demonstration (helps work on Bobcat award). In just a
few seconds each boy can have a turn to send a message with body language to
the group either "I am happy" or "I am mad" or "I am
confused".
The badge this month is on a fun kind of communication: comedy.
Discuss what makes the boys laugh, make sure the bears specifically list
three things (they can duplicate each other).
Activity:
Boys get to make their own comedy sketch or skit with props.
Ideas of props to provide: an artificial flower, tray of play
food, pillow, blanket, pool floatie, watering can, a wrapped present, a broom,
a wig, etc
Skit Idea: “a scout is courteous” this is also teaches the
gospel principle of treating others as God would treat them, for the LDS faith
in God activity. Good manners are part of treating others the way Jesus
would treat them. Challenge boys to use their props twice in the skit,
once to teach what courtesy is and once to teach what it isn't which can be
very silly.

REQUIREMENT 5 Share at least two jokes with members of your den to make them laugh
Gathering: Try several Mad Libs using a
Mad Libs app as boys arrive.
Talk Time: discuss the
Howling at the Moon Legend in the book and the 6 parts of a campfire program.
If your pack won’t be camping discuss which elements will be used in the
next pack night. Give the den three
sticks, three pieces of fire colored paper and six rocks to hold while you
talk. For each part of the campfire
program you will add onto a campfire visual aid. The six rocks make a fire ring. The sticks and paper make an artificial
fire. Add a rock and either a stick or
paper for each item.
1)Opening: prayer and
flag ceremony
2)Songs: this is fun around a fire- have any of the boys done this? What song did they sing?
3)Cheers: ex. the "bobcat cheer" (rawr) and "the wave" for boys getting awards.
4)Skits: We will have our “Courtesy” skit.
5)Story: The cubmaster will tell a story to illustrate the theme of pack night.

4)Skits: We will have our “Courtesy” skit.
5)Story: The cubmaster will tell a story to illustrate the theme of pack night.
6)Closing: flag, prayer, treats.
Activity: Joke Circle- have the boys sit in a
circle, go around the circle at least twice and let each boy share a joke.
You can use jokes out of the Bear book.
Another option is using two pieces of Laffy Taffy and sharing the jokes
on the wrappers. Boys can share jokes
they already know as well.
Rehearse Campfire Program: Practice the skit from last week and optionally practice some run-ons for the Bears.
Play a game that makes you laugh: You could play the soldier game in the Bear book (try to make someone with a serious face laugh) or any other game you know that results in laughter, such as pin the tail on the donkey. The mad lib opener works too. If time is short you could do Minute to Win It, Face the Cookie where you try to move an oreo from your forehead to your mouth by scrunching your face muscles. Young boys might not have much luck, but they laugh and enjoy eating the cookies anyway.
Homework: Howling at the Moon #4 or else perform

Gathering: For this
activity have a first kit disassembled when the boys arrive with a few random
non-first aid objects thrown in, let them guess what actually belongs in the
first aid kit also have a tray with the cub scout 6 essentials and some random
stuff let them guess what is essential to take on a hike (15 min).
Opening: Prayer, Flag,
Oath, and Law (5 min)
Activity #1 (5 min) Give
answers to first aid kit and 6 essentials. Announce that you are
going to be going on a hike next den meeting and that a first aid kit is one of
the cub scout six essentials as well as water, sun protection, food, and a
whistle to blow if they get lost. Tell them, to avoid getting lost
they should have a buddy that they stay with at all times on the
hike. If they were to get lost they would want to stop, stay calm,
think of where they could wait to be easily seen, listen for the group, and
make sure they stay dry and warm. Tell them the appropriate clothing
to wear next week for the hike based on weather that might occur (heat, rain,
wind, cold), remind them to avoid flip flops and open toed shoes as well as the
advantage of dressing in layers, wearing a jacket, or whatever clothing tips
will apply for your hike. Have a list of what to bring on the
hike next week for each boy and what the leaders will be
bringing. Have them put their name on it and make sure they take it
home with them. (e-mail a copy to parents just to be
safe). This is a lot of information, so you’ll have to limit
discussion and plow through it quickly! Having the info on a packing
list for next week will help cover bases if you don’t get to spend a lot of time.
Activity #2 (15 min) Set
up a tent, discuss tips on how to choose a good spot for a tent
Activity #3 (15 min) Have
a treasure hunt or egg hunt to find word strips or pictures of six natural
disasters that could occur and one thing you could do to stay safe in the event
of each one (this is 12 items to find). Either hide a snack with each one, the
entire snack at the end, or give snacks to the boys for matching the disasters
correctlly to the safety tip.
1. Show you are prepared to hike safely in any outdoor
setting by putting together the Cub Scout Six Essentials to take along on your
hike.
2. Tell what the buddy system is and why we always use it in
Cub Scouting. Describe what you should do if you get separated from your group
while hiking.
3. Choose the appropriate clothing to wear on your hike based
on the expected weather.
2. Make a list of items you should take along on the
hike.
3. Make a list of equipment that the group should bring along in
addition to each Scout’s personal gear for the hike.
4. Help set up a tent. Determine a good spot for the tent,
and explain to your den
leader why you picked
it.
Bonus for Bears: Make trail mix with for the hiking
activity, call parents and let them know, you can assign the ingredients.
